Earlier this month, a man was accused of committing four different assaults near the 16th Street Mall in Denver. According to the news, the first woman sexually assaulted was grabbed from behind as the man wrapped his arms around her belly underneath her breasts. This is known as Unlawful Sexual Contact, a class one misdemeanor in Denver.

Another woman was not sexually assaulted, but was forcefully grabbed by the arm. This is known as Harassment, a class three misdemeanor.

The third woman was grabbed from behind, when the man touched her breasts, backside and crotch. Certainly, this will be charged as Unlawful Sexual Contact.

The last of the assaults involved a more aggressive approach, where the man threw a woman to the ground and began ramming her with his pelvis. Bystanders came to help the fourth woman before the man fled the scene. Here, the man will likely face charges of Unlawful Sexual Contact and Assault in the Third Degree, due to the painful experience and bodily injury.

Unlawful Sexual Contact in Adams County

Across Colorado, there are many ways Unlawful Sexual Contact, C.R.S. 18-3-404 is charged in Adams and Jefferson County. Unlawful Sexual Contact can be easily charged in Colorado because the statute is so broad. Some of the ways it's charged are whenever someone subjects a victim to any sexual contact without the victim's consent, or knowing the victim cannot consent because of his / her mental state or alcohol intoxication, or when the actor knows someone is physically helpless and the person doesn't consent.

Since the man grabbed one woman forcefully by the arm, he could face charges of Harassment. For the other women, the man touched their clothed intimate parts without their consent, so he would face charges of Unlawful Sexual Contact in Colorado. He also became aggressive with one woman by ramming her with his pelvis. This would be both Unlawful Sexual Contact and Assault in the Third Degree.
