The Importance of a Jail Visit with an Attorney
The Jefferson County Jail (or Jefferson County Detention Facility), is located in Golden, Colorado at 200 Jefferson County Parkway. They are just a block east of the Jefferson County courthouse. The jail is run by the Jefferson County Sheriff, and can be reached by calling 303-271-5444, or by visiting their website.

The Importance of a Jail Visit with an Attorney
Police investigators swoop in when your loved one is arrested and is sitting in jail. This is because your friend or family member is cut off from all communication with the outside world, and is vulnerable because they haven't spoken with an attorney. This is why it is important to schedule a jail conference with an experienced lawyer immediately. An attorney at our office will advise your loved one to remain silent, and will help them understand they are not alone. We will give them hope until they are bailed out of the Jefferson County Jail. After receiving advice in jail form an attorney, your loved one will have the hope they need – together, we will fight to protect their future.
Bail and Bonds:
The Jefferson County Jail permits bail and bonds to be posted as:
- Surety bonds
- Property bonds
- Cash bonds
- Occasionally, with court approval, a personal recognizance bond is permitted.
There is an addition $10 bond fee and a $40 booking fee (yes, you are charged for being arrested).
Note: When you use a bondsman to post bond, it is like renting money – you will pay a fee, and not get back all of your money. If you post a cash bond, you will receive it all back (minus your bond and booking fee). If you are acquitted, you will receive your booking fee back.
Funds for Inmates:
You can put funds into an account for an inmate in one of four ways:
- In-Person: Visit the jail with cash, U.S. Postal Service money orders, cashier checks and certified funds.
- Online: Visit Access Corrections and create an account that you can fill with your credit or debit card (there are fees related to paying with a credit card).
- Phone: Call 866-345-1884 to add money to the account (fees will apply).
- Send: Send money by Western Union

All mail is searched and the contents are given to the District Attorney if helpful to their prosecution. Don't discuss a pending criminal case or witnesses in jail mail.

The following items are considered to be contraband at the Jefferson County jail:
- Polaroid pictures
- Books
- Magazines
- Stickers
- Stamps
- Envelopes
- Paper
None of these items can be admitted to the facility.
Visits and Phone Calls
You can visit an inmate in-person at the Jefferson County Jail and Detention Facility. Minimum security inmates receive two visits each week, and medium and maximum security inmates get one visit per week. Visits are allowed daily between:
- 9-10:30am
- 1-4pm
- 7-8:30pm
When you come in person, you must present identification. Your criminal history and warrant status will be checked, and no phones or cameras are allowed. Three people are allowed per 30 minute visit. All visits are made by telephone through glass, and are recorded. These recordings can be used to prosecute the inmate, so don't speak about the inmate's case at all.
Collect phone calls from inmates are allowed, if the inmates have funds in their account to cover the cost, and provided you have set up an account to receive these calls. Call Securus Family and Friends at 800-844-6591 to set up this account.
Work Release Program
The Jefferson County jail provides the option for work release sentences – if approved by the court. There is an application process that you must complete in advance of your sentence.
- Proof of employment is mandatory.
- There is a cost for participation in work release – often, a substantial amount of money is required up front.
- Make all arrangements well before sentencing, or you might not get work release, or you may need to sit in jail for a couple of days.
