For most crimes in Denver, Aurora and Castle Rock, charges must be filed within a certain amount of time from the date of offense. This is known as the statute of limitations or limitation of actions. However, there are certain crimes that have no limitations on them – meaning you can be charged whether it happened 5 days ago or 5 decades ago. A school board member is facing this dilemma, as a former student came forward and claimed they had an inappropriate relationship decades ago. She claims that she had sex with the then teacher no school board member when she was 14 years old. If these allegations had surfaced decades later related to a Colorado teacher, would they be able to pursue charges? Let's find out.
